Yard work
Hard surfaces, patios and kerbs swept, litter picked, paths kept passable. Farmyards, stable yards and cottage courtyards — the parts that aren't garden.
Priced on the job
Southwest Bristol is my second patch: the terraced streets of Bedminster and Southville, where back gardens are small, walled and worked hard, and Ashton and Long Ashton on the western edge. Gardens here are urban in a way the Herefordshire round isn't — more paving to edge around, more shade from the house behind, more call for making a small space earn its keep.
Bishopsworth, Withywood and Knowle
The bigger post-war gardens run south through Bishopsworth, Withywood and Knowle — proper lawns, long hedges, and the borders that come with them.
Dundry, where the city stops
Dundry is the odd one out: a hilltop village looking back down at the city, with wind-bent hedges and gardens that behave more like Herefordshire than Bristol. I like it up there.
The work is the same menu: lawns cut and edged, borders kept clean, hedges trimmed with the clippings bagged and gone, and one-off tidies for gardens that have slipped over a season. Terraced-garden rescues — brambles out, beds redefined, a lawn back where there was a jungle — are the Bristol speciality, and they go faster done in the right order.

What I don't do in Bristol
Tree surgery — not covered.
Emergency call-outs — not reliable from Ledbury. For urgent work, a Bristol-based gardener is the right call.
If a job needs a Bristol-based specialist, I'll tell you straight.
Common questions in Bristol
Looking for a gardener in Dundry, Bedminster — anywhere south of the river?
South of the river — Bedminster and Southville across to Ashton and Long Ashton, and up through Bishopsworth, Withywood and Knowle to Dundry. North of the Avon isn't ground I cover; if you're right on the edge, ask and I'll be straight about whether it works.
Can you rescue a terraced back garden that's gone over?
Yes — that's the Bristol speciality. Brambles out, beds redefined, a lawn back where there was a jungle. Small walled gardens respond fast, and once it's rescued the regular visits keep it that way.
My garden is mostly paving and pots — is that too small a job?
No. Small spaces are most of the work here — edging around paving, keeping pots and borders alive, a regular tidy to stop the garden slipping. If it's genuinely a ten-minute job I'll say so.
Get your Bristol garden sorted.
Five minutes on the phone is usually enough to agree a price. Call for a quick chat, or send an enquiry and I'll ring you back today or tomorrow.
